It’s that time of year when you’re more than ready for winter to be over and summer to hurry up already. At the salon, we have so many guests asking for soft, effortless beach waves, so we thought it would be fun to show you exactly how to get that look at home with no heat. Here are 10 easy ways to create natural-looking beachy waves that feel relaxed, pretty, and perfect for warmer weather.

While beachy waves can technically work with almost any haircut, certain shapes make the look much easier to achieve. Soft, seamless layers help create movement, keep the hair from feeling too heavy, and make styling those relaxed waves a whole lot easier.

Your prep matters just as much as your styling method.
We always recommend drying your hair with a microfiber towel to help prevent unnecessary breakage (traditional cotton towels can be rough on the hair cuticle). From there, gently wring out excess moisture and choose your products based on the final look you want.
P.S. If you’re someone who feels like your hair doesn’t hold a wave well or lacks volume, extensions can also play a huge role in creating that fuller, more effortless beachy look.
We all remember the panic of straightening slightly damp hair in middle school and that very specific burnt hair smell. Thankfully, we’ve evolved since then. As a salon in Oceanside, California, it’s safe to say we’ve mastered the art of effortless, beachy hair. And you don’t need heat (or smelly burnt hair) to get there.

Here are our favorite no heat beach wave methods to try at home:
Section damp hair into 1.5–3 inch pieces and twist each section tightly. It might look a little intense at first (trust the process), but once dry, gently separate with your fingers for soft, natural waves. Lightly spray in some hairspray to hold the look even longer.
Apply your products, then twist your hair into sections and wrap them into a loose top knot. Once your hair is fully dry, take it down and rake through for an easy, voluminous wave.
Place a soft headband over your hair and wrap 1-inch sections around it, adding more hair as you go. Let it dry completely, then remove for soft, uniform waves.
Roll small sections of damp hair into flat curls and pin them close to your head. Once dry, release for a more defined, vintage-inspired beach wave.
Wrap sections of damp hair around silk rods or ribbons before bed. This method is gentle on the hair and creates smooth, frizz-free waves. Thanks to TikTok, you can find these in any major department store.
Also, because they are soft silk rods, they are comfortable to sleep in overnight!

Use soft or foam rollers on damp hair and allow them to set overnight or throughout the day. This creates a more polished version of beachy waves.
Twist your damp hair into sections and wrap them using strips from a soft t-shirt. This is a great alternative to heat styling and helps reduce frizz. Double win!
Braid your hair loosely before bed and undo it in the morning. I always recommend a section on each side of your scalp and 1 section at your hairline (3 braids total!). For a more natural look, gently pull apart the braid and avoid brushing.
Apply your go-to curl-enhancing products, scrunch your hair upward, then wrap it in a microfiber towel or t-shirt. Let it set to create that natural wave pattern.
Wrap sections of damp hair around socks and tie them in place. It might feel a little unconventional, but the results are soft, bouncy waves without any heat damage.

The easiest way to get no heat beach waves overnight is by braiding or twisting damp hair before bed. Loose braids create softer waves, while tighter twists give more texture. For best results, make sure your hair is about 70–80% dry before styling and use a lightweight product to help hold the shape.
If your hair struggles to hold a wave, it’s usually due to a lack of texture, too much moisture, or the wrong products. Adding layers, using a texturizing spray, or even incorporating extensions can help create longer-lasting, more defined waves.
It depends on the look you’re going for. For a more textured, beachy finish, sea salt spray and texturizing products work best. For softer, more relaxed waves, use a lightweight smoothing cream or shine spray to reduce frizz while keeping movement.
Yes, but your method matters. Short or fine hair tends to do better with smaller sections and lighter products. A layered haircut can also make a big difference in helping waves hold and look more natural.
Yes! No heat methods are generally healthier because they reduce damage, dryness, and breakage. Over time, minimizing heat styling helps your hair stay stronger, shinier, and easier to manage.
The key is breaking them up. Once your hair is fully dry, gently run your fingers through your waves instead of brushing them out. You can also alternate the direction of your twists or braids to avoid a uniform pattern that creates that “imperfect” look.
